Are you a refugee claimant living in Victoria, Vancouver, or any city in BC with a pending or failed refugee claim? You now have the chance to apply for Canada permanent residence.
The primary requirement, however, is that your experience must indicate that you work in the healthcare sector in Canada for a minimum number of hours during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, you must have provided direct care to a patient and meet the other eligibility requirements.
Eligibility Requirements
Don’t miss out on this opportunity! Submit your application if you are one of these:
- You are a refugee claimant in Canada whose status is pending or failed and submitted your claim before March 13, 2020
- You obtained your work permit only after you made your refugee claim
- Your job is on the list of healthcare sector jobs eligible for application
- You and your family members can enter Canada
If it is your spouse or common-law partner who is the eligible refugee claimant who worked in one of the eligible jobs but died from COVID-19, you can still submit your Canada permanent residency application. Just make sure that you and your family members are admissible to Canada and have been in the country since August 14, 2020.

List of Jobs Eligible under Work Experience
Your work experience must be in one or more of these listed jobs, and your primary duties match that indicated in the NOC descriptions:
- Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses (NOC 3012)
- Nursing coordinators and supervisors (NOC 3011)
- Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates (NOC 3413)
- Licensed practical nurses (NOC 3233),
- Home support workers (NOC 4412) – not all occupations
- Allied primary health practitioners (NOC 3124)
Minimum Number of Hours
You must have rendered the minimum number of hours for both:
- At least 120 hours of work in a qualifying job between March 13 and August 14, 2020
- Total full-time position of 30 hours each week for six months or total part-time work hours of 750 before August 31, 2021
If you have not yet reached the required work experience to apply for Canada permanent residence, you can still submit your application and have until August 31, 2021, to meet the work experience and submit the proof later.

- Proof of your registration in a healthcare program
- Payment of union dues
- Proof as a member of a local union
- Pay stubs
- Work contract
- Income tax notices of assessment
